Private vs group dance lessons: which is right for you?

Your free introductory private session. No experience needed, no partner needed.

This is the first fork in the road for every new dancer, and studios rarely answer it honestly because most only sell one of the two. Having built our model on private teaching, we will still give you the fair version of both sides.

What group classes do well

They are cheaper per hour, they put a room full of potential friends around you, and the energy of a dozen people learning together is genuinely fun. For social styles, a group also gives you many different partners, which is useful practice for real dance floors. If your goal is a light social hobby with company built in, groups have real merit.

What private lessons do well

Speed and correctness. One teacher watching only you catches every habit as it forms, tailors each minute to your body and your goal, and moves exactly at your pace, which is faster than you expect precisely because none of the hour is spent waiting. Nerves also change the equation: shy beginners who would white-knuckle a group class relax within minutes when the room holds no audience. And for a deadline, a wedding, an event, a cruise, private is not really a choice but a requirement: the outcome must arrive on a date.

The honest matrix

Complete beginner with nerves: private, without question; see lessons for shy beginners. Wedding with a date attached: private. Social butterfly who wants mates and does not mind slow progress: group, or a mix. Stuck at a plateau after years of group classes: private is how plateaus die. Budget-first casual interest: group, honestly.

The mix deserves more attention than it gets: a private program to build technique, plus social dancing to spend it, is the strongest combination we know, and it is how our social dancing programs are shaped.

How we run it here

CareToDance is a boutique studio built on private, personalised programs: your teacher, your pace, your goals, reviewed as you progress, with our own social events to practise at. The free introductory session is the easiest way to feel the difference in person, and it obliges you to nothing.
