Every couple who comes to us gets a first dance built around them. That has always included LGBTQI couples, and it has never required a separate conversation.
What it does mean in practice is that nothing is assumed. Who leads, who follows, whether you swap through the routine, and how the dance looks are all decisions the two of you make with your teacher.
No assumptions about who leads
Traditional partner dancing assigns roles by gender. We do not. Some couples pick a lead and a follow because it suits how they move together, some share both roles through the routine, and some build something that does not sit neatly in either.
If you both want to learn to lead, that works too. It takes a little longer and it is worth it if you plan to keep dancing socially after the wedding.
Choreography that suits you both
We start from your song, your outfits and how you want the moment to feel. Suits, gowns, trains and heels all change what is comfortable, so we rehearse in something close to what you will actually wear before the day.
If you want something understated, we keep it understated. If you want a routine that builds into something the room will not expect, we can do that too.
A studio where you can relax
Lessons are private, at our Rozelle studio, with the same teacher throughout. You will not be paired off with a stranger or asked to perform in front of a group.
The first introductory session is free, and it is genuinely a conversation and a little dancing, so you can see whether we are the right fit before committing to anything.
Visiting the studio
You’ll find us at Level 1/595 Darling Street, Rozelle NSW 2039. Sessions run Monday to Friday from 12:50pm to 8:55pm, with Saturday VIP and private appointments by arrangement.
