Personalised dance programs for adults in Sydney
Rozelle · Sydney’s Inner West
Your free introductory private session. No experience needed, no partner needed.
Made for adults who have always wanted to dance.
There are no generic packages or one-size-fits-all courses at CareToDance. Every student starts with a free planning session, and from there we build a personalised dance program around your goals, your pace and your diary, with private lessons at its heart and small group classes and social nights alongside.
Who our programs are for
Adults who have always wanted to dance and never quite started. Many of our students are in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond: professionals with full diaries, recently retired people looking for something new, couples and plenty of singles. Most walk in as complete beginners, and many feel nervous before their first lesson. That is exactly who the program is designed for.
- A new hobby
- Exercise you enjoy
- Stress relief
- Confidence
- Good company
- Weddings
- Galas and parties
- Cruises and holidays
You do not need to know which dance you want. We introduce you to the ballroom and Latin styles that suit your goals and the music you love.
How a personalised program works.
Five steps, from a free first conversation to the social dance floor.
A free planning session
A relaxed, private conversation with a little dancing, where we take the time to understand your goals, confidence level, learning style, schedule and experience.
Your program
Your teacher recommends a program suited to your goals, skill and learning pace. Programs are tailored and vary in size, so we quote for yours rather than from a rate card.
Private lessons, planned in advance
Our instructors pre-plan every lesson around your strengths, goals and learning style. Your teacher is also your partner, so you never need to bring one.
Group classes as guided practice
When the time is right, your teacher adds the best group class to your program: small and level-matched, never crowded rooms with steps called from the front.
Social dancing
Monthly themed social parties at the studio, where you use your new steps and the teachers dance too, plus dinner and dance nights through the year.

Why private lessons are the foundation.
Private tuition is the core of every program because it is the fastest and most comfortable way for an adult to learn. Every minute is about you: your timing, your posture, your questions. Habits are corrected in the lesson they appear, not a term later, and nobody is watching you get it wrong on the way to getting it right.
We do not just teach dancing. We teach people.
It is also why you do not need a partner. Couples learn together and singles learn with their teacher, then both practise with other students in the group classes and at the socials. If you are weighing the two formats, our honest comparison of private versus group dance lessons sets out the trade-offs, and our private dance lessons page covers how one-on-one tuition works for every style.
What a program includes.
Private lessons
With your teacher, each one planned around your goals.
Small, level-matched group classes
Guided practice for what you learn privately. Group classes are part of a program rather than sold on their own.
Practice and social nights
Including the monthly themed social parties at the studio.
Events through the year
From dinner and dance nights to premium events at venues including Sydney Aquarium, Taronga Zoo and La Montage. You decide how involved you want to be.
A studio to belong to
A lounge where you can have a coffee or tea, practise or catch up before and after your lessons.

A program for every goal.
Most students arrive with one of these in mind. Whatever yours is, the program is built around it.

Dancing for life
Most students come to dance socially, to feel at home on any dance floor. We teach more than 30 ballroom and Latin styles, and most beginners start with one or two of the gentler ones. Our social dance classes are where that begins.

A wedding dance
Every couple, song and vision is different, so we build your first dance around the two of you rather than selling a fixed routine. See our wedding dance lessons for how that works.

An event or a trip
A gala, a milestone party or a cruise with ballroom nights makes a clear goal with a date attached, and we plan the program around it. Our guide to dancing on a cruise covers which dances matter most.

Fitness and wellbeing
Dancing works your heart, legs, balance and memory at once, which is why so many students call it the exercise they never skip. More on that in dance classes for fitness.
Built around the person, not a package.
“Their program is really well thought through”
We love our lessons at CareToDance. Christian is a great instructor and they have their program is really well thought through that breaks down the different dances into segments. They have a great way of teaching you so you understand the differences and similarities between the key styles which make them much easier to remember. And group lessons are a great way to make sure you're not learning bad habits from your partner (!) and to build your confidence.
“Is there only 5 stars to give?”
I recently started as a beginner at CareToDance after many years of wanting to learn ballroom (but being too scared). I was blown away by the professional and welcoming environment at CTD. If you’re looking for a fun and professional social dance studio where the teachers are FAB and the programs are tailored to you - this is the place for you. Is there only 5 stars to give?
“I've gained a lot more confidence.”
The most encouraging, supportive, talented and passionate teachers ever. I haven't just learned steps, I've gained a lot more confidence. I always go home with a big smile on my face after each lesson.
Boutique, not a franchise.
CareToDance is a boutique adult social dance company, not a competition school or a copy-and-paste franchise. Our teaching system is monitored closely, our instructors receive ongoing internal training, and we refine our methods based on what is working best for our students. We have been teaching Sydney adults since 2014.
The studio was founded by Cristian Basescu, who trained and competed in Italy, won Italian and European championship titles, appeared on Dancing with the Stars, and has coached and judged across Australia. He built CareToDance as the place he could not find when he arrived: somewhere adults could learn properly, feel comfortable and join a community without feeling judged.
Boutique, monitored, evolving, high-quality teaching.
What a program costs.
Because programs are tailored and vary in size, we recommend one and advise the investment after your planning session, once we know what you want to achieve and how often you would like to come. Your first session is free, and there is no obligation.
Common questions.
Do I need a partner?
No. Your teacher is your partner in private lessons, and you dance with other students in the group classes and at the social parties. Many of our students come on their own, and couples are just as welcome.
Do I need to know which dance I want to learn?
Not at all. Most beginners do not, and you do not need to choose before your first session. We work it out together based on your goals and the music you enjoy, then start you with the styles that suit.
Can I just come to group classes?
Our group classes are part of a program rather than sold on their own. They are designed as guided practice for what you learn in your private lessons, which is why they are small and level-matched.
How long is a program?
It depends on your goal. Programs are tailored and vary in size: someone preparing for a wedding with a date in mind needs something different from someone taking up dancing for life. Your teacher recommends a program after your planning session.
Is it suitable if I am over 60?
Yes. Many of our students are in their 60s and beyond, and some started after 70. Lessons are private and paced around you, and the gentler dances such as the waltz, foxtrot and rumba make generous starting points.
The first step is free
Your first session is on us.
A relaxed mix of conversation, a little dancing and a personalised plan. You do not need to know how to dance, and you do not need a partner. Most of our students start as complete beginners, on their own or as a couple.
