There are two tangos, and we teach them both. Ballroom tango is the sharp, theatrical one, all staccato and attitude. Argentine tango is the intimate, improvised walk it evolved from. What they share is this: both are taught through connection, which makes both close to ideal for private, one-on-one lessons.
Which tango is yours?
If the picture in your head is a rose, a snapped head turn and drama, you want ballroom tango. If it is a dim milonga, a close embrace and music by Piazzolla, you want Argentine tango. Plenty of students try both in their first weeks and let the dance choose them; a personalised program makes that easy.
Why one on one matters more in tango
Tango technique lives in weight transfer and connection, things a teacher can feel instantly in a private lesson and almost never diagnose from the front of a group. Progress that takes a year of weekly group classes routinely takes a fraction of that privately, and it is learned correctly the first time rather than un-learned later.
Starting from nothing is normal
Most of our tango students had never danced anything when they started. The free first session is a conversation and a walk, literally: tango begins with walking together, and your teacher will have you doing that, to music, before the hour is out.
